The shutdown continues and the pressure is on us.

We are now entering the second week of this shutdown and Boehner is dug in like an Alabama tick. (Via HuffPo.)

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said Sunday that there are not enough votes in the House of Representative to pass a continuing resolution to fund the government without a provision defunding or delaying the Affordable Care Act.
“There are not votes in the House to pass a clean CR,” Boehner said in an interview with ABC’s “This Week.”
Contrary to Boehner’s claim, several House Republicans have signaled willingness to pass a bill to fund the government with no strings attached to Obamacare’s funding and implementation.
In the ABC interview, Boehner pushed back on the vote estimates for the bill, saying negotiations still needed to happen.
“The American people expect in Washington when we have a crisis like this, that the leaders will sit down and have a conversation,” Boehner said. “I told my members the other day — there may be a back room somewhere, but there’s nobody in it.”
Boehner criticized President Barack Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) for their unwillingness to budge on the CR, saying Reid is demanding “complete surrender.”
Turning toward the looming debt ceiling deadline, the House Speaker said his chamber would not pass a measure to raise the limit without an Obamacare-related provision.
“We are not going to pass a clean debt limit [bill],” Boehner said. “The votes are not in the House.. We are not going down that path.”

Translation: There are enough votes for a clean CR but if I allow it, I’ll lose my job as Speaker. And then without my graft money, how will I pay for my Scotch and Cigars?
I honestly believe that we’d all be better off if Boehner just chucked the speakership and moved to Toledo to open a Chrysler dealership.  At this point, I’d like to think that Boehner feels the same way.

Bottom line.  This is on us.
We sat out the 2010 midterms and bought this madness on ourselves.  This is a participatory democracy and we need to get into the game.
You need to go to the Website of The House, find your representative and if he supported this shutdown, call his office and let him know in no uncertain terms that this needs to end now!
We need to get all Who’s yelling in Whoville up in this bitch!
(Note.  I already called Greg Walden’s office this morning and made it clear to the staffer who picked up that Walden voted for the shutdown, he owns the shutdown and provided we’re still stable enough to have elections next year, he’s going to wear it come November. He thanked me for my impute and promised to pass it along and did so in the smallest voice possible.
Whatever congressional staffers get paid, it’s clearly not enough.)

So get on the phone. Get on Twitter. Get on Facebook. GET ON EVERYTHING!!!
It’s fuck or walk!
