Via Talking Points Memo:
The National Rifle Association is amping up the political rhetoric in advance of President Obama’s gun violence prevention announcement scheduled for Wednesday. On Tuesday, the NRA posted a video on its website accusing the president of being “an elitist hypocrite” because his daughters have armed guards at school. CNN reported Tuesday night that the video “is running on the Sportsman Channel, a cable network focused on outdoors programming such as hunting and fishing.”
The NRA has called on Congress to put armed police in every public school in the nation following the Newtown shooting, a move rejected by many teacher groups.
In December, Obama told Meet The Press he was “skeptical” that placing armed guards in schools was “the only answer” to preventing future shootings like the one at the elementary school in Newtown.
“I think the vast majority of the American people are skeptical that that somehow is going to solve our problem,” Obama told MTP. The NRA video seizes on the quote, using it to cast Obama as a hypocrite on guns.
“Are the president’s kids more important than yours? Then why is he skeptical about putting armed security in our schools when his kids are protected by armed guards at their school?” the NRA ad’s narration reads. “Mr. Obama demands the wealthy pay their fair share of taxes, but he’s just another elitist hypocrite when it comes to a fair share of security.”
Below is the ad in question.
You know, there are days when it sucks to blog about politics. Looking up information. Making sure you’re citing the right sources. Because you’re a responsible blogger and not some asshole trying to fill six paragraphs with unsubstantiated horse shit with enough key words to assure that you show up on a Google search and get a high hit count. (That reminds me. Before I forget. Pussy. Ass. Dickhole. Megan Fox.)
So you can just imagine my relief to have the NRA throw something up that can be debunked with of all things, a clip from a Season One episode of “The West Wing”.
Yes, God forbid that President Obama, the man who’s garnered more death threats than any other President in modern history would want to keep his children safe. If, for no other reason, to not have to face the terrorist mandated Sophie’s Choice between dropping a nuclear bomb on Israel or letting one or both of his daughters take a slug behind the ear.
Seriously, if that’s the best the NRA Brain Trust can come up with as an argument against Obama, I wouldn’t trust them with a freaking cap pistol, let alone automatic weapons.

Look. Outside of FPS video games and John Woo movies, I have no use for guns myself. But being a live and let live kind of guy, I have no beef if someone wants a weapon for either hunting or protection. As long as they’re responsible it.
But to say that any solutions to these gun massacres that have been happening can’t involve any regulation of firearms is a denial of common sense. And instead of screaming about Hitler or claiming that Newtown was a False Flag operation, how about helping come up with ideas to stop crazy people from getting their hands on guns?
Because the more you scream against common sense ways to cut down on gun violence, the more you sound like people who shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near guns.
