Eli’s coming…No, actually, it’s Issac.
As Tropical Storm Isaac swirls in the Caribbean — becoming more powerful mile by mile — it threatens to unleash disaster once again on vulnerable and often unaware Haitians by Friday night.
The possibility of stinging rain and tree-bending wind descending on the hundreds of thousands of Haitians living in camps has aid groups in the country on high alert.
By the time Isaac strikes Haiti, it is forecast to be at hurricane strength, bringing destructive wind and water to an area still recovering from a devastating 2010 earthquake.
As much of 12 inches of rain is forecast for some parts of the country, posing danger to the more than 400,000 Haitians in the camps.
Isaac also poses a risk to the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida. The storm could hit anywhere in the state, Gov. Rick Scott said Thursday, and it will be up to convention organizers to decide the fate of the event.
If I were a Man of God, I’d be temped to say that Issac is a divine punishment upon the GOP for behaving like a bunch of raving assholes for the last several years about…well, everything. And that they should take this as sign that they should mend their wicked ways.
If I were an honest man of God, I would also be forced to say that since He’d be putting the holy smack down on Haiti first, a country that’s still recovering from the 2010 earthquake, I would be forced to conclude that the God of my Forefathers is kind of a righteous prick with anger issues. And I would be forced into a crisis of faith that would ultimately lead me down a road of despair and nihilism.
Thankfully, I’m an Atheist and I can just chalk of the whole thing to weather patterns and have a nice quiet dinner.
To the people of Haiti and Florida, sending you kindly thoughts. Please stay safe.
And the GOP, you should still take the fucking hint and stop being assholes.
