A word of advice to parents who want to take their kids to the Oogieloves movie…

May I offer the following alternatives for your children that they will enjoy more.

“The Court Jester” with Danny Kaye and Angela Lansbury. (1954.)

“The Adventures of Robin Hood” with Errol Flynn, Basil Rathborn and Olivia de Havilland. (1938.)

“The Red Balloon”. Directed by Albert Lamorisse. (1956.)

Any of the Ray Harryhausen Sinbad Movies.

“Time Bandits” and “The Adventures of Baron Munchausen” both directed by Terry Gilliam. (1981 and 1988.)

“Salo, of the 120 days of Sodom” Directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini. (1975.)

Okay, I’m clearly joking about the last title. (Seriously, parents. DO NOT LET YOUR KIDS SEE THAT LAST TITLE!) But it would almost be preferable than this…

When you use the term “Marketing Visionary” in your trailer and it’s not a set up to a joke, you should be forced to publicly apologize to everyone in the world.

H/T (Or blame within.) to Drew McWeeny.

Love “The Red Balloon” my husband and I just hiked through Ménilmontant last weekend when we were in Paris.

  2. It’s an old childhood favorite. I can’t tell you how many times my grade school played it when I was a kid.
