Rick Santorum: And for an encore, he can expect a plagiarism charge from Mel Brooks

Yeah, he didn’t finish it. But man, it sure as shit sound like he was headed in that direction.

Santorum was speaking at a rally in Janesville, Wisconsin, still locked in the ferocious nomination battle with Mitt Romney and still desperate to become the true conservative standard-bearer of the Republican party.

“We know the candidate Barack Obama, what he was like – the anti-war government nig …” he seems to say, then suddenly stopping, and changing tack to add: “America was a source for division around the world, that what we were doing was wrong.”

It is hard to think of exactly what word Santorum was about to use. What word beginning with “nig-” comes naturally after government? It has been suggested he was trying to say “-nik”, as in peacenik or beatnik. That is possible. Or perhaps, it was some non-specific verbal tic: a random vowel-consonent flub.

I watched the video at least seven or eight times.  And call me a cranky leftist, I’m will swear the guy was headed down the Dr. Laura road.
I find this hard to believe though. Not that I don’t think Santorum harbors racial animosity. But I am amazed that any politician in this day and age, even one as bone headed as Santorum, would be dumb enough to let that word anywhere near the frontal lobe. Most have successfully trained themselves to swap that word out for “Socialist”.
Not that it matters at this point. Mitt Romney has pulled ahead in the polls in Wisconsin.  Gingrich and Paul are locked together in a death spiral. And Buddy Roemer has decided to get  to get off the GOP crazy train and make a Third Party run.  (Which I’m fine with because even though he doesn’t have a chance in hell, someone will actually be debating Obama on actual issues.)
So get ready kids, It’s going to be Obama Vs. Romney in November.
Start girding those loins now.
