SEATTLE, BITCHES!!!: Travel day and Saturday.

-I am currently in the gorgeous city of Seattle, Washington.  A little more relaxed than I was two days ago and freshly sated by French Bread Pizza and Garlic Bread.  And why the knot of tension located in the back of my neck isn’t gone, it’s loosened up considerably.  What follows are the semi gory details.

-The train ride from Klamath Falls to Seattle was…as always…insanely pleasant.  Yeah, it’s twelve and a half hours but you can sleep most of the way.  And they do serve you real meals.  (Meanwhile on planes, a flight attendant will throw a single bag of Almonds into a starving crowd and then cackle as the coach section turns into Thunderdome.)  And may I say, the roasted chicken was quite delish.
All in all, a pleasant trip…until we got stuck in Tacoma for two hours.
At around a quarter to eight, the train stops and the conductor announces that the tracks have been blocked due to an incident “Involving a train and a tresspasser”.  Which I’m assuming was conductor speak for this…

An Amtrak train struck and killed a man Friday evening in Sumner.

The man stepped behind a southbound Sound Transit train and onto adjacent tracks, where he was hit by an Amtrak train that was traveling northbound, according to Gus Melonas, a Burlington Northern Santa Fe spokesman.

The incident occurred at about 6:05 p.m. on Zehnder Street in Sumner.

Needless to say, grousing on my part would be…well…douchy.
Anyway, finally got into Seattle at around 10:30.  Arrived at Jake’s place where we spent the next half hour going over the week’s scheduling and catching up on bitching about politics (I’m slightly more optimistic about Obama’s leftward swerve since Rahm left but we’re both equally despairing about his Human Rights record.) until Jake zonked out on the couch while I caught up on my E-mails and Facebook.

-This morning was about the food.
Particularly, breakfast at the Coastal Kitchen which is one of those blessed places on the planet that have taken the simple dish of Bacon and Eggs and turned it into a holy Sacrament. With the hash browns being just on the right side of spicy. And if you ask, they will cook them extra crispy!(And yes, I also tweeted this picture because that’s the kind of narcissist a-hole that I am.  Feel free to pity me.)
From there, it was off to the Pacific Science Center and their Boeing Imax Theater where I saw “Legends of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole”. And it was pretty much as advertised, there were owls and a number of them did some defending.
And to be honest, for a kids film it was surprisingly bad ass.  Yeah, the owls are cute but by the last reel, the level of animal on animal violence reaches “Watership Down” proportions.  The animation by Animal Logic is insanely detailed and Zack Snyder takes to animation like a natural.  It’s one really bad pop song away from being a classic kids movie.
All in all, a good fun first couple of days.  And we have stand up tomorrow.
More later.
